The Dance Tutor and his troupe have been doing performances for a variety of events now for many years and it is a highlight for us and we hope for those watching. We are versatile and work closely with the Event Coordinators in order to meet the required theme of the event or festival.

These classes are based on interaction, light warm up and cool down activities, some dance steps and lots of music and singing. Our program is flexible to suit each retirement home and their budget and generally runs once a month. We give careful consideration to the capability of the residents and cater to those less mobile through to Independent Living. Our program is designed to incorporate all needs.

We have various programs in place to suit the organisation concerned. We have a 12 month plan which involves a monthly session with the very last session as an interactive performance for which the troupe join us. For this last session we generally encourage a morning or afternoon tea to make the occasion even more festive.

If our 12 month program is not suitable we then work with you to make whatever adjustments suit the organisation and its’ needs.

We cater for special occasions and theme to suit. A very good example of this is our memorable Christmas and Birthday shows.

Retirement Village Shows

These people are a wonderful mixture from all walks of life who love to dance and to share their enthusiasm and obvious enjoyment with others. They are happy to perform at the Senior Events and the Retirement Village Sector as it gives them a showcase for their learning and fun and enjoyment to their audience. Charles often has his young son Michael join us during school holidays to play piano at the Retirement Village sing-alongs.

Barbara has had a varied background working in both medical and financial areas, gained a Bachelor of Education and taught in Secondary Schools as well as specialising in English as a Second language. She enjoys dancing and loves organising and has combined all this to be the company administrator. She is currently doing Tai Chi and has accreditation to Teach Tai Chi for Arthritis and planning on adding to this. The Dance Tutor is hoping to incorporate this into their work.

Alex

Alex has been a member of the Dance Troupe for some years and is a retirement village and events favourite. Dancing is a passion and we welcome her on board particularly in the Debutante Balls sector. Alex is a Secondary School teacher and believes dancing gives confidence and poise to young people as well as being great fun.

Sue

Sue is a valued member of the troupe and is a favourite dance partner for Charles. She has a wide experience in Aged Care and enjoys being part of the staff at The Dance Tutor as it involves having fun and bringing fun.

Angela

Angela comes to us with a long and experienced teaching background and has a love for dance and anything that makes people happy. Her enthusiasm and wonderful smile makes her a welcome addition to our staff.

Janelle

She loves to dance and is married to the Dance Tutor and enjoys coming to the session when her profession allows her to.

Lisa

Lisa loves entertaining and bringing pleasure to the residents almost as much as we love her.

John

Like Lisa he enjoys entertaining at the Retirement Villages and comes along as often as he can to our great delight.

Charles has been teaching dance for 30 years in a wide range of styles. During his teaching career he has catered to a wide range of student abilities in all age groups and from a great variety of backgrounds with private lessons, small dance tutorial groups and often much larger classes. He has also taught at various venues from studios through to various adult community colleges, and has been involved in teaching dance to a special group of intellectually disabled people through the Wesley Mission as well as teaching dance in a number of retirement villages.

The Dance Tutor now specialises in working with the elderly but to keep a balance in his career, the company also specialises in teaching couples to shine on their wedding night, and preparing young students for their school formals and debutante balls. This career combination keeps him grounded and “on his toes.”

He was a recent finalist at the Young at Hearts Short Film Awards 2008 for the documentary he produced highlighting the fact that the “Young at Heart” are alive and kicking in the Retirement Village sector and love their music and dance.

The Young at Heart Short Film Awards is a unique screening of short films recognising seniors in the film industry. It is presented by the Festivalists and the NEW Department of Ageing, Disablity and Home Care (DADHC) as part of the celebrations for the 50th annual NSW Seniors Week. Charles had the honour of being chosen as a finalist for Young at Hearts Short Film Awards 2008 held at the Dendy Opera Quays in Sydney. Watch now

Our service extends to the couple and the bridal party if desired but does focus on the bride and groom. We choreograph the wedding dance in accordance to the couples’s wishes and abilities and are happy to be conventional or otherwise. It is their special moment.

The Wedding package

10 private lessons at $85.00 per 1 hour sessions

Choreography is our gift to you along with an extra session at the end just to calm those pre-wedding nerves and for a dress rehearsal. No, not the full bridal but similar pieces to ensure you will be able to dance comfortably. We don’t want to spoil the surprise. The last session includes light refreshments.

Private Tuition

1 private lesson at $90.00 per 1 hour session
Choreographed Piece $90.00

Cash or cheque for one-off sessions is our usual. Direct Debit is also available particularly in the case of the Wedding Package for your convenience.
